Description

The S&S Cycle 496 Cam Chest Kit is meticulously engineered with precision-machined billet aluminum for both the oil pump and cam plate, ensuring superior durability and performance. This robust construction provides a stable foundation for your engine's valvetrain. Key to this kit's excellence are its advanced oiling features. It boasts independent scavenge sections for both the flywheel cavity and cam chest, significantly increasing oil flow capacity on both feed and scavenge sides. Debris screens in both scavenge pickups, along with a strategically placed magnet in the cam chest, actively prevent contaminants from reaching the oil pump, extending engine life. The updated oil pump includes a groove for an optional OEM oil seal, and passage plugs are removable for easy servicing. An adjustable pressure relief valve allows for fine-tuning even with the unit installed.

Complementing the oil system are the included Quickee pushrods and high-performance tappets. These tappets offer fast pump-up and superior high-RPM performance, drastically reducing valvetrain noise from startup to shutdown thanks to their close tolerances and low leak rates. The hard-anodized black tappet cuffs further improve tappet stability, especially in high-lift and high-RPM situations, ensuring consistent valve action with the 496 Series grind. With an intake lift of 0.485" and exhaust lift of 0.485", this kit is optimized for powerful performance in water-cooled engines.
